Content bonanza
Square Enix has announced that it plans to release an Ultimate Collection version of Final
Fantasy XI, which is set to arrive as a digital download on November 12. The package will
contain all the content that the publisher has so far provided for the MMO and will allow
interested players to get the full experience of the game without the hassle implied by
getting expansions and patches. Square Enix has not said exactly how big the download is
set to be, but those interested should make sure they have a solid broadband connection to
take advantage of the new offer.
The Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Edition pack is set to include the Rise of the Zilart, Chains of
Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess expansions, but it also has
the recently released A Crystalline Prophecy - Ode of Life Bestowing, Moogle Kupo d'Etat -
Evil in Small Doses and A Shantotto Ascension - The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born
add-ons.
This means that all the adventures that are part of the MMO are offered to the player in one
easy-to-use package. It helps that Final Fantasy XI still has a dedicated player base, which
is welcoming to newcomers and helpful to those who are preparing to jump in for the first
time.
Final Fantasy XI is already eight years old, but players who are interested in the universe
that it portrays and its mythology are still into seeing it expanded. Square Enix has recently
announced that it has begun work on Final Fantasy XIV, another MMO that is now set to get
its full attention. The newly announced Ultimate Edition might be one last attempt on the
part of the company to get some players for XI just as most of the resources are shifted to
XIV, which is set to arrive late in 2010 or early in 2011.
